Explore the Backstage World of Theatre

The Teen Apprentice Program at Theatre Under The Stars offers high school students an unparalleled opportunity to discover the administrative, technical and creative side of musical theatre. From scenic and lighting design to stage management and directing apprentices gain hands-on experience guided by theatre professionals.

Open to high school students interested in areas of the industry other than performance.

The program follows the academic school year. By the end of the spring semester, apprentices leave with practical skills, professional connections, and a deeper understanding of the theatre industry.

Applications are now being accepted through Friday, Oct. 24. Selected participants will meet monthly between Monday, Oct. 27 and Friday, May 8.

FAQs

Who can apply?
Students in grades 9–12 from across the Greater Houston area. No prior theatre experience is required, but an interest in technical theatre or management is recommended.
What areas are covered?
Lighting, scenic and sound design, stage and company management, directing, casting, and costume design, among others.
How often does the program meet?
Monthly sessions are scheduled throughout the academic year, typically on weekends or weekday evenings.
Is there a cost?
There is no fee to participate.
Can I participate if I’m also involved in TUTS Academy or HSMT?
Yes! The program is designed to complement student training, not replace it.
