Founded in 1996, The River provides inclusive, adaptive, and affordable fine arts education for individuals with disabilities and their siblings.
What Makes The River Unique?
- Inclusive classrooms led by professional teaching artists trained to work with students of all abilities.
- Experience serving students with a wide range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Down syndrome, intellectual and developmental disabilities, learning differences, and physical disabilities.
- Teaching assistants and volunteers who provide individualized support.
- A licensed nurse onsite during classes and camps.

What kinds of programs are offered?
- Weekly adaptive performing arts classes in acting, music, and dance designed for students of all abilities, including individuals with disabilities.
- Seasonal camps during school breaks.
- Performance opportunities, including the Inclusive Arts Showcase.
- Special collaborations with the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre and the TUTS Performance Troupe.
Where do classes and rehearsals take place?
Do River students get to perform?
Yes! In addition to class showcases, River students perform in the Inclusive Arts Showcase, collaborate with HSMT students, and may also audition for TUTS Mainstage productions. Mainstage auditions typically take place in August.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Need-based scholarships are available. Families can apply through the Scholarships page.
