The Humphreys School

The Humphreys School of Musical Theatre began in 1972 with a generous grant from The Humphreys Foundation. Named in honor of Texas actress, Kalita Humphreys Burson. For 54 years the Humphreys School has been the place in Houston for top-notch musical theatre training for students from age 4 to 18.

Students at the Humphreys School sharpened skills in acting, voice, and dance learning from experienced teaching artists while building skills in teamwork, discipline, and creativity. Humphreys students have also had the unique opportunity to audition for TUTS Mainstage productions, working alongside Broadway veterans and professional creatives.

Many Humphreys alumni have gone on to build successful careers in the industry. You can learn more about them here.

One thing that will never changes is that TUTS is the place for training the next generation of theatre professionals and passionate arts lovers.

The River Inclusive School

Founded in 1996 by Bob and Kathy Binstock, The River began with one dance class for their daughter who had been turned away from every dance school they’d approached due to her disability. Wanting to give her the opportunity to pursue the artistry she was passionate about and to offer that same opportunity to others, the Binstocks successfully grew The River from that one class into a place that offered art, music, dance and acting.

The River merged with TUTS in 2010 opening the door for students to have more performance opportunities than they’d experienced. Students who trained with The River have had the opportunity to perform in TUTS Mainstage productions alongside students from The Humphreys School.
