Student New Works Series

 Spotlighting Tomorrow’s Stories and Voices

The Student New Works Series is a pair of one-week summer intensives for high school students, held at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

In each week-long program offered through the TUTS Musical Theatre Academy, students work with professional artists to workshop a brand-new musical—rehearsing, collaborating, and performing while helping shape new work in real time.

For students entering grades 9–12 and 2026 high school graduates.

Students must be high school aged (incoming freshman through graduated senior). Open to both HSMT Academy and non-Academy students.
Do I need prior experience?
No. While theatre experience is helpful, students of all levels are welcome to apply.
Is an audition required?
Yes. Because the series involves casting in original works, auditions are part of the selection process. Details will be announced with registration.
Where are rehearsals and performances held?

At the TUTS Education Studios in the Hobby Center, with final performances in Zilkha Hall (unless otherwise announced).

What makes this different from the Student Musical?
The New Works Series focuses on newly developed pieces rather than established shows. Students play a role in shaping the material during the rehearsal process.
